Description
Verdite is trade name of a type of metamorphic rock that is made up of a mixture of minerals, including serpentine (mainly), talc, and chlorite. It is typically green in color, and mainly found in Africa.
The green colors of verdite are a result of chromium (that also gives emeralds their green color), though the stone can also have shades of yellow, blue-green and brown with spots or swirls.
